Emily Worthy, DVM/Owner
Dr. Emily Worthy grew up in the Catskill Mountains in NY state where she fell in love with all creatures from the cats at home to the cows at her friend’s dairy farms. Dr. Worthy earned her B.S. in Biology from Siena University in 2000 and her Master’s Degree in Forensics Science from National University in 2005. In 2012, Dr. Worthy earned her Doctorate of Veterinary medicine from Michigan State University.
After Living in 6 different states and visiting 6 different continents, Dr. Worthy knew she wanted to return to Northeastern NC to live and work near her family. She spent 5 years in small animal general practice in Chesapeake, VA before fulfilling her goal of practice ownership. In 2017, she partnered with The Vets Pets to purchase Eastern Shore Animal Hospital.
Dr. Worthy’s professional interests include dentistry, geriatric care, behavioral medicine and leadership. When she is not wearing her scrubs, Dr. Worthy enjoys her time at home with her husband Jason, her children Olivia and Jack, her stepchildren Caroline and Jude, and all of their local cousins, Billy, Adlai, Stella, Lulu, Lily, Noah, Henry and Elise. The Worthy family pets currently include the cats: Geraldine, Sweet Dee, Charlie, Chompers, and Fat Mac, the crazy Beagle/Jack Russel mix, Indiana, and the best dog ever, Coletrane the 14-year old yellow Lab/Golden Retriever mix.
John Harvey, DVM
Dr. Harvey grew up in Larchmont, NY where he enjoyed scouting, sports, church fellowship, singing, and working with “all creatures, great and small” in any way possible. John earned his B.S. in Biology at St. Lawrence University in 1985, studying also in Kenya and Montreal. After his parents’ retirement to Tryon, NC, John earned his D.V.M. at North Carolina State University in 1990. While at NC State, Dr. Harvey also worked with disease surveillance in Montserrat as well as St. Vincent and the Grenadines. His work at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta was also quite interesting, resulting in his publication in the Journal of the American Veterinary Association. John was given a national award in veterinary public health.
Dr. Harvey settled in Roanoke Rapids, NC, where he practiced mixed animal/exotic veterinary medicine and surgery for 11 years. He became the Medical Director of Roanoke Animal Hospital during his experience there. Dr. Harvey and his family moved to Chesapeake, VA in 2001 where he has been the Medical Director and small animal/exotic/avian/wildlife rehab veterinarian for over 17 years at Hope Springs Veterinary at Great Bridge. Throughout his professional career, Dr Harvey has cherished the relationships he has shared with his clients, patients, co-workers and community.
Following the retirement of his wife, Ann, they chose to make a lifetime dream come true and moved to Kitty Hawk, NC. After commuting to Chesapeake for nine months, Dr. Harvey desired to be closer to home where he could spend more quality time with his family and community. He is so very excited to join the stellar veterinary team at Eastern Shore Animal Hospital in Grandy, NC.
Outside of his professional activities, Dr Harvey enjoys walks on the beach with Ann and “Butterbean,” their “Chi weenie”/pug rescue. Paddle boarding, golf, church choir and fellowship, and exploring the Outer Banks are also high on the list. Dr Harvey has two sons, Cal and Drew, and a daughter, Sarah, all of whom have grown up and are happy in their endeavors. Two grandchildren, Daniel and Elizabeth, continue to enrich life immensely. Above all, Dr. Harvey feels blessed to be able to be part of this community, doing what he loves. Sharing relationships with his patients, clients and colleagues continues to inspire his passion for providing the very best compassionate care to our beloved animals, our family members.
Elizabeth, Office Manager
Elizabeth is our office manager and receptionist. She has worked at ESAH since the fall of 1998. She says, “I truly enjoy coming to work everyday because I know I will have the opportunity to help a pet and their owner.” She lives with her husband, 2 sons, and four-legged children.
Darlene, Veterinary Technician
Darlene is our registered veterinary technician. She graduated from Central Carolina Community College in 1993 with an Associates Degree in Veterinary Technology and has worked at ESAH ever since. Her duties have included assisting in surgery, taking x-rays and running diagnostic tests.
She is married with cats and two dogs named Alice and Tyler. She enjoys bowling, photography and softball.
Erica, Veterinary Assistant
Erica started working at ESAH in June of 2000. She is a native of Currituck County. She is a veterinary assistant who is a dedicated team member devoted to the care of pets and their owners.
Jessica, Veterinary Assistant
Jessica is a veterinary assistant and has work at ESAH since 2007. As a veterinary assistant, she loves helping pets and their owners. In her free time she enjoys boating and fishing
Rhonda, Veterinary Assistant
Rhonda has worked at Eastern Shore Animal Hospital since 2007 and is one of our veterinary assistants. Rhonda lives with her husband and two dogs, Cersi and Angel. She says, “My love of animals is what motivates me everyday to give 110% to my furry, four legged patients.” She is a Virginia Beach native who enjoys swimming, going to the beach and any activities with her fur babies.
Stacie attended Nash Academy of Animal Arts in 1999 and has been grooming dogs and cats for the last 18 years. Grooming is her passion and she could not imagine doing anything else. Stacie owned a mobile grooming business in NJ called “Bubbles to Bows” before moving to NC in 2016 to be closer to her family.
She enjoys spending her free time with her cousin and her children, as well as the rest of her family. Stacie also enjoys reading, knitting, nature, and playing with her dog, Plexie, and cat, Niomia. During the summer, Stacie can be found enjoying her days off on the beach with family and friends.
She is so excited and looking forward to this new adventure with ESAH!
Sarah, Kennel Manager
Sarah is our kennel manager who oversees our boarding facilities. She is a big asset to our clinic by taking care of your pets when you are out of town. She also plays a big role in taking care of sick patients.
Janine, Animal Caretaker
Janine has worked at ESAH since 2008 and assists in maintaining the boarding facilities and curating the hospital grounds. Janine gives every animal here complete attention and ensures that your pet enjoys their stay with us. Originally from Ohio but now living in Grandy, she has one terrier mix named Scrappy.
Hanna, Kennel Assistant
Hanna is a kennel assistant who has many tasks but enjoys working hard at spoiling your fur babies while you are away. She is a current student at Currituck County High School. Hanna loves all animals and has five furry family members at home.
Alycia, Kennel Assistant
Alycia is a kennel assistant who is very passionate about working with animals. She is a hard worker and loves to make sure your animal(s) feel right at home while you are away. When she is not at ESAH, she is at home with her two dogs and four cats.
Connie is our receptionist and works answering phones, making appointments and coordinating our appointment schedule. She has three children and a Boxer named Bogie.
